Around 8:00 AM, your driver-guide will pick you up from your hotel or riad in Fes to start this 3-day journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains toward Marrakech. The first stop is Ifrane, often called the “Switzerland of Morocco” and known for its striking scenery and forests. From there, we continue to Azrou, home to the cedar forest where wild Barbary macaques roam, and you will have time to stop and take photos along the way. The route continues to Midelt, with an optional lunch stop at a local restaurant.
We then head toward the desert via the Tizi n’Talghamt pass to Errachidia, enjoying views of the Ziz Gorges, with time to stop and photograph the dramatic Ziz Valley. The journey continues through the Tafilalt Oasis, passing Aoufous and Erfoud, known for its fossil museums and date palms, with an optional stop at a local fossil workshop.
Just before sunset, you will arrive in the Merzouga Sahara Desert for an unforgettable experience: a camel ride into the Erg Chebbi dunes toward our authentic Berber desert camp. The trek takes about 90 minutes, with a stop on top of the dunes to watch the sunset, try sandboarding if you wish, and enjoy the views. At camp, you are welcomed with a glass of mint tea before dinner, followed by traditional Berber drumming, a sky full of stars, a campfire and the chance to share stories with the nomads. Overnight in a private nomadic-style tent.
Wake up early to watch a stunning sunrise over the Erg Chebbi dunes. After breakfast and a shower at camp, you will return to Merzouga village by camel or 4x4, whichever you prefer. From there, we drive to Rissani to visit the region’s largest traditional market, then continue through Berber villages including Mellab, Tinjdad and Jorf, the latter known for the wells of an old irrigation system and well worth a stop. Lunch is optional in Mellab or Tinjdad. Next comes the Todra Valley, home to one of southeastern Morocco’s oldest and most striking oases, along with the Todra Gorges, canyons about 300 m high, carved over time by water and popular for climbing and hiking. The day ends in the Dades Gorge, where you will spend the second night at a riad.
Begin the final day with breakfast overlooking the Dades Gorge, then continue toward Marrakech through the Valley of Roses and the palm groves of Skoura. In Ouarzazate, there is a short stop at the Kasbah of Taourirt, followed by a 27 km drive to the UNESCO-listed Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a striking fortress that has served as the backdrop for major film productions over the years. From there, the route climbs through the High Atlas over the Tichka pass and brings you into Marrakech, the Red City, where your journey ends.
